Does acupuncture hurt?

Not exactly.  Yes, we do use needles, placed into the skin, and the body can & should FEEL that.  The acupuncture needles are literally as thin as a hair.  The sensation of “pinprick” is typically the only thing noticed by our patients (and that rarely seems to bother them).  If a point seems to be persistently bothering them, we usually choose a different point, the needles should not be uncomfortable once they are placed.  That being said, some VERY sensitive or nervous patients may do better with use of a therapeutic laser at the points rather than needles (we can often progress to needles as they become accustomed to treatments).
